Regular meetings are held on the 4th Friday of
every month from September through December, except as noted below.
Starting in January 2012 we will begin meeting
on the 3rd Friday of each month except as noted below.
Doors open at 6:00p.m. Arrive early for
special sign-ups. Meetings start at 6:30p.m. in the Carmen Miranda
Room at La Hacienda Center, except as noted below. Dues are $5.00
per year.
50/50 drawings and "Didja know" Brooklyn
trivia will be held at the end of every meeting.
Members must wear their badges. Guests pay a
$5.00 admission fee to attend any meeting.

How did Williamsburg get its name?
Answer:
Williamsburg was named after Colonel Jonathan Williams, a U.S.
engineer (and grand-nephew to Ben Franklin) who surveyed the
area. Williamsburg was spelled "Williamsburgh" when it was
annexed by the City of Brooklyn in 1854, and the H was dropped
in 1894..
Who was "Howling Hilda"?
Answer:
"Howling
Hilda" Chester may be the most famous sports fan of all time.
Hilda die-hard Brooklyn Dodgers fan who
sat in the
bleachers starting in the 1920's until the Dodgers left town for
Los Angeles in 1957. After suffering a heart attack, Hilda was
under doctor's orders not to yell at the games anymore, so she
brought an iron frying pan and a soup ladle to bang instead.
That was replaced by a brass cowbell, which was given to her by
the Dodgers players.
Hilda sat in the left-field bleachers at nearly every home game
between the 1920's and
September 24,
1957, the last game the Dodgers played in Brooklyn.
